Design and Technology

Reflection:
Technology is a great tool. It's also a necessary tool. The art of teaching requires the integration of technology within a lesson, while still honoring traditional approaches to teaching that have research to back up that they work. Utilizing both, allows all different learners the opportunities to experience education and the presentation of information in a variety of ways. This approach also allows the teacher to be the facilitator of information and students to own their education.
I will use this page to house the ways I have applied skills learned throughout my ETEC courses to student-centered lessons and presentations. The artifacts include some assignments from class, while others show the implementation of technology into my lesson plans with students.
First, I selected the following presentation as it shows how I incorporate blended-learning and the use of technology into my classroom. You'll notice there are different areas and ways for students to show evidence of learning. Videos, FlipGrid, games, as well as more traditional approaches are encompassed in the lesson plans for this particular week.

I also wanted to include a presentation (below) that I gave at the district level to promote blended-learning and student engagement. Canvas was a newly introduced program at the elementary level when Covid hit, and I presented ways to make it more engaging for elementary-aged learners by using and creating a Bitmoji classroom. Some members of my grade-level team were strictly in-person, while others were virtual, and I happened to be both. This was something my team utilized DAILY regardless of our assignment.
Implementing engaging ways to practice skills is important in education. Below, I linked a digital escape room I created for my third graders to help practice place value. I can say through experience, there was 100 percent student engagement as they practiced their content, while simultaneously trying to "escape" the dinosaurs.
In our Introduction to Educational Technology course, we were given the opportunity to explore and reflect upon different educational tools. Below is my reflection on each.
